Dr. Katherine Barko-Alva is Assistant Professor and Program Director of ESL/Bilingual Education at William & Mary, School of Education. Currently, she serves as a member of the National ESL Advisory Board for iCivics. In addition, she serves on the executive board for the Virginia Dual Language Educators Network (VADLEN). She has been awarded the Virginia Latino Advisory Board Latinx Leadership Award in Education and the Janet Brown Strafer Award at William & Mary, School of Education, recognizing her efforts promoting equitable and inclusive learning spaces. Her research explores the role of language, equity, and agency in ESL/Dual Language contexts.
