Elementary Pre-service Teachers’ Representations of Emergent Bilinguals Through Written Reflection

 How do educators prepare elementary classroom teachers to support culturally and linguistically diverse students in their classrooms? Is our teacher education program doing enough? Rebecca Bauer is a former elementary school teacher from Minneapolis and currently works with elementary pre-service teachers at the University of Minnesota. She has a Master’s Degree in ESL and is a PhD from the University of Minnesota in Curriculum and Instruction. Her current research focuses on third grade emergent bilinguals and their experiences learning English literacies in school. Rebecca has presented at conferences locally and internationally. She is a member of MinneTESOL and other professional organizations such as the Literacy Research Association and Association for Childhood Education International.
